The SPA creates a universal format that application authors can follow in order to create an application that can be installed or portable, and is able to be parsed by other applications in order to create, for example, a launcher for a set of portable applications. The SPA allows the user to customize where application settings are stored to make them either fixed or portable. It also allows application authors to specify icons to show in order to launch their application and its components.
